The Ozone Research
Center, a scientific branch of the National
Center for Scientific Research of Cuba (NCSR), was
founded on May 1st, 1994. It is responsible for leading
the studies and extending ozone applications all over the
country.
Among the functions of this Center there is
the performance and coordination of the full-cycle research:
Research and Development, Production and Marketing.

To perform those functions, there
are Laboratories of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology,
Biological Assays, Instrumental Analysis, Water Treatment,
Ozonized substances, Mechanical and Electronic Design.
It has also two clinics: one for offering international
medical services through Health Tourism (Internaional
Ozone Therapy Clinic) and a national clinic for developing
and performing different research protocols linked to
ozone therapy. Moreover, it has a plant to produce ozonized
sunflower oil for topical use (OLEOZON®) which is
registered in Cuba as a drug for the treatment of epidermophytosis.
In this facility, a similar product is obtained that
has completed the clinical assays and it is in registration
phase as a drug for the treatment of giardiasis.
The scientific work of our scientists
has been continuous. Since 1987, many papers have
been presented in the Ozone World Congresses and then
published in high impact national and international
scientific journals. In Cuba, at the Ozone Research
Center, two national and three international conferences
on ozone research and applications have been held.
There, more than 200 papers have been presented and
a hundred researchers and specialists from fifty countries
have taken part in the conferences. The results obtained
have given the Center a worldwide reputation in the
medical and industrial applications of ozone. It is
affiliated to the International Association of Ozone
(IOA), since 1995.
The Ozone Research Center has obtained
several sanitary registers, patents, industrial models
and brands in its short life. Likewise, it has extended
the medical applications of ozone all over the country,
through a National Network for ozone therapy that
gathers over 40 national health institutions. This
network guarantees the fast introduction of the results,
as well as the decrease of the times for performing
the necessary clinical assays for the medical registers
of the different therapeutic applications of ozone.
The scientific approach f the work
performed in all these years and the contributions
to Medicine, have given Cuba a well known worldwide
reputation in the field of the medical applications
of ozone. Likewise, a satisfactory work of design
and manufacture of ozonizers for therapeutic uses
and other necessary accessories to perform this work
have been carried out. All that has made possible
the national production of the essential technology
for extending ozone therapy through all the country,
and the export to other countries.
